Saturday 26th March - Windsurf * The Dip at Felixstowe – sunny and
mild.
Foil – 6.24 knot max, 4.78 knot ave., 0.00 knot hour, 0.00 knot mile,
10.29 km., 4.14 knot alpha.
Exocet RF AST 91 with Slingshot Hover Glide 76 with Tushingham Lightning
8.5m.
After five days in a row out on the bike it was time to have a rest from
that and as we had another lovey sunny day with a hint of a breeze but it
looked really marginal. I checked the webcam and it looked lovely at The
Dip so with the tide low I decided to head down to check it out dropping
Mag off at Jacobs Ladder for her walk. With foil racer David Coles also
arriving there seemed enough breeze to tempt me to have a try. I rigged 8.5
while David rigged his biggest a 9.5 with this being the first time I had
been on the open sea since 30th October last year! I know as soon as I set
off from the beach that there was not enough wind for my freeride foil kit
but David with his full on race gear was flying everywhere, I definitely
should have been out on the bike today as I cant get going in winds of 10
knots or less in fact my heavy Tushingham Ligthning 8.5 which is good at
handling winds up to 20 knots struggles to get going in light airs, there
was not even a gust to pump up on! I would like to try an 8m foil sail just
to see if it would greatly improve my lightwind foiling but at the price of
a new sail are out of my league! Still, it was pleasant enough to be out in
the warm sunshine!
